I'm having a problem with malware, ie7 redirects to a message telling me I have a "threat of a virus attack" and should download WinPC Antivirus. I can't run DDS and I also can't run other programs like Malwarebytes or Spybot. Any help would be greatly appreciated... I managed to produce a hjt log which is here:

Hello jedf,

Posted Image

This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

If ComboFix will not run the first time, then rename ComboFix.exe to fluffybunny.exe and try it again. :thumbup2:

Thanks,
tea

hello, i tried to run combofix but it won't load, even after redownloading and renaming it fluffybunny. when i try to run it it appears in the task manager for a short while as a process but nothing happens on the screen. this is the same thing that happens with spybot, malwarebytes etc.

Okay then, we'll just keep trying until something works. :thumbup2:

Download GMER's application from here:
http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip

Unzip it and start the GMER.exe
Click the Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.

Once done, click the Copy button.
This will copy the results to your clipboard.
Paste the results in your next reply.

Wow.......all right then, since you can run HijackThis let's see if we can do a little with it and chip away at this stuff :

Create a Startup List[/u]
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
  • Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
  • Copy and past the StartupList from the notepad into your next post
Also an uninstall list :

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Well it ran, didn't it :thumbup2: Problem is there's nothing in them we can use. :step4: Have you tried renaming MBAM to run it? Same with Gmer......if not, then please try and I'll go rummage around in my bag of tricks for something that will work around this malware so we can get it. :)

Let's see if this will run :

Download and scan with the free trial of Sunbelt's Counterspy:
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/CounterSpy.cfm
Save the report when it's finished:
1.Once Counterspy has done scanning, the 'Scan Results' box will appear.
2.Click on 'View Results'.
3.Under (Recommended Action),using the drop down menu arrows at the side of each entry found, set them ALL to 'Remove'.
4.Then click on 'Take Action'.
5.Once everything has been removed, click on 'View Details'.
6.Copy and Paste those details into a Word/Text document, then save it to your desktop.

Post that in your reply, please. :thumbup2:

Thanks,
tea
