Hello,

I am getting ready to wipe my hard drive and re-install Windows XP Pro because of a Trojan.Daonol attack.

My computer is an Acer Veriton 6800 and when I got the computer I had to burn 5 recovery disks. Would these be all that I need to restore my hard drive and operating system to it's original configuration or would I have problems with the Windows System Key, drivers, BIOS, etc.

I guess I am asking what all is involved in wiping and restoring my hard drive?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

What does your owner's manual say?

What does the Acer website have to say about repair options for your system?

Hello,

Yes, I would also recommend checking the owner's manual.
Most of the time, there's a way to 'restore to factory defaults' by pressing an F button during startup.

I will be using DBAN and the owner's manual doesn't really get into restoring after a wipe of the hard drive. I guess I didn't make that clear in my original post.

Thanks,
Greg

If the owner's manual doesn't cover it...

I'd say that you need a licensed copy of XP (genuine Microsoft) and then it's simply a matter of allowing the CD to format/create/install. That's called a clean install, one done on a bare hard drive.
