Hi,
I am looking at upgrading some things in my pc. I want to add 1gb of ram, change the video card, and replace two cd drives with one dvd writer. Is this possible to do without locking me out of xp? Thanks for your help.

I attached my newegg shopping cart if you are interested in the hardware I am looking at.

You won't get locked out of Windows, you may need to reactivate the operating system by calling Microsoft.

Hi there,
As you are not changing your hardisk drive, so your XP will remain as it is. Changing ram, DVD drives, CD rom drives wont affect your OS. After installing new drives please make sure to install it's software.

It's trial-and-error. I've changed any number of compoents in systems, seldom paid attention to whether re-activation happened or not.

Either way, activation should not be more than a few seconds wasted, assuming that you have a legal install of XP.
