Had the WinPC strike the other night. Couldn't get Malwarebytes or Spybot S&D to open at all. Used a couple other programs (can't recall which ones now) to get rid of WINPC and ended up using SUPERAntispyware 4.26.1002 and got rid of some more problems. Google still seems to redirect when I tried to access antispyware sights (Spybot site) and closed all windows when I tried to use the Spybot reset program from Trend Micro Systems website (to try to get Spybot to open so I could do a scan). Malwarebytes still not opening either. I suspect I still have some lingering issues and humbly ask for assistance please. Here is my HJT logfile I scanned only about 20 minutes ago. Please advise if a different scan is required by this or another program. Ohhh and I've run Registry Mechanic several times today as well each time it does find stuff and fixes all but one entry. Ohhh geesh forgot to meantion AVG free won't update either and that's been a problem for about a month now. AVG, Spybot S&D and Malwarebytes have all been uninstalled and reinstalled but the problems listed above are here to stay (hopefully not for long). Thank you kindly for your help. And couldn't get DDS to run even with AVG, Spybot and SUPERAntispyware all closed off.

Derrick.

Hello Sandman76,

Ohhh and I've run Registry Mechanic several times today as well each time it does find stuff and fixes all but one entry.

A big mistake. :thumbup2:

Do yourself a favor and get rid of Reg Mechanic.
Registry cleaners can mess up so many things. It happened to me one time so I'm not just saying that.

The following is referring to Reg Mechanic.
Please be aware that bleepingcomputer staff do not recommend the usage of registry cleaners / tools due to the following facts:
  • Registry tools can cause irreparable damage to your Operating System
  • Registry tools can, as a result of the above, render your pc to be inoperable.
Download Security Check by screen317 from here or here.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
Please post the contents of that document.

Lets get Malwarebytes working.

Disable Spybots Teatimer before running Malwarebytes, as it will prevent it from working.

To disable Spybot's Teatimer:
Run Spybot-S&D
Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts

If MBAM will not install, please rename the installer mbam-setup.exe. Example: newtool.exe
Proceed installing the renamed installer of MBAM.

If MBAM will not run, go to the program directory of MBAM (e.g. C:\Program FIles\Malwarebytes Antimalware\) then rename mbam.exe to newtool.exe, double click newtool.exe to proceed in running a quick scan.

Post the Malwarebytes log.
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Select Files and Folders created in last 3 months
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized).
info.txt can also be found at c:\RSIT\info.txt

Hi Mike. First of all thank you for taking on my PC problems eeeek!
K I tried to run Security Check and no go. Also tried to run Spybot to disable Teatimer but Spybot won't run. As a note, Spybot hasn't held me out of Malwarebyte's in the past. I have tried to disable Spybot Tea Timer through the task bar and from the task manager killing anything with Spybot or Tea Timer labels and Malwarebyte's still won't run. I have tried relabeling Malware's files (tried several as the one I figured was the exe file didn't work) and non of them worked for running Malwarebyte's (I undid every file name change after I changed it and found that the name change not to work). Security Check is on my desktop but it won't run either (even before I killed Spybot and tried Malware) and still won't run after killing Spybot. Here are the logs from RSIT and sorry about their length!

So in short at this point Spybot, Malwarebyte's and Security Check will NOT run and everything was done in the order you said to do them in and went back and tried all again as well. If I must I will reformat (not looking forward to that though).

Thanks and I'll check back May 19.

Derrick.

Please disable any running anti-virus program before running Kaspersky Online Scanner.
If you are unsure how to do this, see this topic: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/114351/how-to-temporarily-disable-your-anti-virus-firewall-and-anti-malware-programs/
Close any open browsers

Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

You can refer to this animation by sundavis.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer.
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report
  • Now, click on the Save Report as button.
  • In the drop down box labeled Files of type change the type to Text file.
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
This scanner will only scan. It does not remove any malware it finds.

Hi Sandman76,

To Clear the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) cache, do this:
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
Double-click the Java icon.
-The Java Control Panel appears.
Click "Settings" under Temporary Internet Files.
-The Temporary Files Settings dialog box appears.
Click "Delete Files".
-The Delete Temporary Files dialog box appears.
-There are three options on this window to clear the cache.
Delete Files
View Applications
View Applets
Click "OK" on Delete Temporary Files window.
-Note: This deletes all the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the cache.
Click "OK" on Temporary Files Settings window.
Close the Java Control Panel.

We will run ComboFix.

You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an Malware Removal Expert, not for private use.

Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.
Please read Combofix's Disclaimer.
Further, ComboFix logs are not permitted outside the HijackThis forums and then only when requested by a HJT Team member.

You need to disable your AVG Antivirus and Spybot Teatimer before running ComboFix, as they will prevent it from running.

To disable AVG antivirus:
Please open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component (looks like this: Posted Image) -> deselect the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.
When you need to enable the AVG Resident Shield, ( I€™ll let you know when) just open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component -> select the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.

To disable Spybot's Teatimer:
Run Spybot-S&D
Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts

Note: If you already have a copy of ComboFix on your system it is essential that you delete it before downloading this copy.

Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

To work properly, you must install ComboFix on the Desktop..
Post the log from ComboFix in your next reply,

A caution - ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making IE the default browser.
ComboFix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal and increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell me.
Have no other programs running. Your Task Bar should be clear of any program entries including your Browser.
Do not run Combofix more than once.
Do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed, as this may cause the process to stall or your computer to lock.
The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop.
Even when ComboFix appears to be doing nothing, look at your Drive light. If it is flashing, Combofix is still at work.

Couldn't get into Spybot to disable it, but I think I disabled it from the task bar and went into task manager and killed all Spybot applications there. Is that adequit for killing TeaTimer? Is it safe to use Combofix now?

Hello again Mike:

Can't seem to get ComboFix to run from the desktop. I have waited aprox 40 minutes from hitting run initially, but no further screens have popped up like in the ComboFix tutorial. Even the comuter operating light on the front does nothing. Please advise.

Derrick.

If it is not working then reboot your computer and try it again.

Did you disable your antivirus and teatimer before running combofix?

Let me know if you still cant get it to run and we will try another approach.

Hello yet again Mike:

Yes, all antivirus and anti malware/teatimer programs were disabled upon first - third try for ComboFix. Rebooted and ensured all antivirus and malware/teatimer programs disabled and still ComboFix will not run. Sorry this is such a headache!

Derrick.

Hi Derrick,

Thats OK. We will try a different way to run it.

Delete the ComboFix on your desktop.

When you need to enable the AVG Resident Shield, ( I??ll let you know when) just open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component -> select the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.

To disable Spybot's Teatimer:
Run Spybot-S&D
Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it.Save it to your desktop.

Hey there Mike. K got ComboFix to FINALLY run. Initially it wanted to restart after finding some problems, I let it restart computer and sit there for about 2 hours as it did NOTHING and desktop was blank. Shutdown computer for 10 minutes and restarted. Got ComboFix to run (needed two tries each time to run but it went). K here's the log as an attachment (wish I figured that out last log posts).

I await further instructions,

Derrick.

Hi Sandman76,

Is you AVG 8,5 outdated?

You need to disable your AVG Antivirus and Spybot Teatimer before running ComboFix, as they will prevent it from running.

To disable AVG antivirus:
Please open the AVG Control Center program -> double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component (looks like this: Posted Image) -> deselect the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.

Click Start, then Run and type Notepad and click OK.
Open notepad - don't use any other text editor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the code box below into notepad:

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
"AntiVirusDisableNotify"=dword:00000000
"UpdatesDisableNotify"=dword:00000000

Name the Notepad file CFScript.txt and Save it to your desktop.

IMPORTANT: The above script was written specifically for this infection on this person's computer. It is NOT to be used on another computer, as it may cause damage that could result in a format!

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply. Please DO NOT attach it, as that makes it hard to read.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!
