Hi there. I work at a computing help desk, and I am trying to help a friend clean his computer. From what I understand, someone who had access to his computer awhile back thought it would be a good idea to click on every porn pop-up that came up, and now I am trying to undo the damage. I downloaded McAfee and ran a system scan, deleting 232 viruses the first time around. I also downloaded and ran Ad-Aware and Spybot, and got Windows Updates. McAfee On-Demand scan still pops up every time I try to open IE with a new Trojan; I had to download Firefox because I couldn't use IE without disabling McAfee.

So, I'm hoping you can help me out and let me know what needs to be done. The HJT log is below:

Hello wikkidgame and welcome to the BC forums. Let's start out with these items:

The first thing that I see is that you have NewDotNet installed. To remove it follow these directions:
  • Please download LSP-Fix and WinSockFix from the following links and save them to a location you can find later if necessary.
  • To remove New.net:
    • Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
    • Look for and remove the following programs:
      • New.Net
        eDonkey
If you can't find New.Net, then please go here and follow the removal instructions in Procedure 4 at the bottom of the page.
  • If you can not connect to the Internet after removing New.net, please run the LSP-Fix program I had you download earlier, and click on the finish button. If you still have a problem run the WinSockFix program and click the Fix button. Reboot if you run either tool and you should be able to get back on.
OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.
