I have the feeling this would have happened in Vista too: After messing around some with sharing settings (the end describes how) everything appears to be working fine, except that the icon of any files on my desktop now get a tiny lock in their lower-left corner. I rarely save and never launch anything from my desktop but you can understand why it would be a little unsettling. To your knowledge, why is this occurring, and what can I do to turn it off?

What I was doing: I accidentally changed the icon to my "links" special folder and could not find it again in its default icons palate. To restore it I granted the Guest account access to my user folder when I attempted to enter it from there, and replaced my original links folder with a copy of Guest's (I did this from Guest because I didn't want some kind of dependence conflict while the original links folder was being deleted). There were serious problems when I tried to finally remove Guest's permission from Guest, but was later successful by trying again from my user account.

Thanks a lot!
Dave
