I am working on a HP pavilion dv5030us laptop. The operating system is windows xp media center edition. After updating to service pack 3 the sound is garbled. It will play for a while then it starts skipping like a bad cd. Also AVG anti-virus software was installed to. I believe the problem is with service pack 3 however.
Steps I took
1. I downloaded the sound driver from HP site.(that didn't work)
2. I tried updating the drivers in device manager.(That didn't work)
SO I am not sure if this make has a built in sound card or not but any advice would be very helpful. Thanks

Go to Device Manager...what do you see?

In any case...uninstall the audio entries under Sound, Video, & Game Controller...then try installing the sound drivers.

If it's a laptop...it has onboard sound .

Hey Louis thanks for your help I installed the driver and it is still chopping sounding. I thought about taking off service pack 3 and maybe re-installing. Another problem i deleted all the other Audio Codecs. I beleive they had .dll files in the. This is not the driver on HP's site. And I don't have the XP CD do you know where I can get the files from or have any suggestions. Thanks

You don't need the Windows codecs...you can download/install other packages.

But...http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/codec.mspx
