1TB Freeagent Delayed Write Failed Error

I have a 1tb seagate freeagent only about 6 months old I get delayed write failed error what does this mean how do I fix it. Sometimes I can access the drive most of the time I can not went I try to copy stuff to another drive sometimes I get this error.

Could be any number of things.

Have you run chkdsk and then defragged the drive recently?

Running CHKDSK - http://www.1securitycenter.com/windows_xp_faq/chkdsk.html

You can trun a manufacturer's dieagnostic on that drive, to properly check it's condition.
