Hi everyone,

Yesterday I was transfering data files to my external HD when my laptop suddenly froze. Then a blue screen popped up about system dump prep. and I had to immediately shutoff my laptop. I restarted and moments after Windows came on and I logged on, the same thing happened and this time, it started to dump files. I restarted in safe mode and tried to do a system restore but it said there were no restore points. I then scheduled a disk check up to auto fix file errors and restore and recover any bad system sectors but the scan came back as clean... This morning, Vista was unable to start up so I had to manually restart the laptop where start up repair automatically activated in which it gave the option to restore to an earlier time before Vista could finally work.

I do not know what is causing this problem and how to diagnose this problem. My OS is Windows Vista Home. I also have ran multiple antivirus checks which all turned out negative so this is not caused by any viruses.

Please advise as to what may be causing the system dump and what I can do to prevent another occurence as well as how I might be able to solve this problem.

Thank you for your time. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Ice

Hello, I think I have some advice for you, since I have Vista, and it's a laptop, it's odd, but the same thing hasn't happend to me yet, But I need more information. Can you even get it to where the little Microsoft cube comes up and beeps? If not, and it'll go to black/blue screen that says something along the lines of "Sorry, your computer couldn't successfully boot up. Please try (so and so) or system recovery" Or does it go straight to dumping?

Hi Sidestep and thank you for replying. Nothing beeped. The screen just turned blue when the laptop froze and started dumping... after managing to stop the dump by turning off the laptop, I tried system restore and discovered there were no restore points. I later found out that some of my music production software lost some of it's settings and some of the files I was working on became corrupted so I went to safe mode and just started backing up parts of my hard-drive. The next morning, I couldn't start the laptop because Windows Vista wouldn't load so I manually shutdown and restarted to which the laptop went into start up recovery mode before I finally managed to access the laptop....

I'm not sure what the problem is or how to fix it... Please advise.

Thank you for your time,
Ice
