iTunes won't add songs

I am using Windows XP Home sp3 and Windows 7 beta in a dual-boot configuration, with iTunes 8.1.1.10. When I installed the beta, I transferred my iTunes library access there because I was using it more often. The song files remained in my XP partition, but I accessed them from 7. I am now trying to transfer everything back into XP. I uninstalled iTunes from Win7 and changed the permissions on the music folder in XP so I could access it again. Because I wanted to save the state of my library, I exported a library .xml file from iTunes in Win7. Then I changed the path of the music files in the .xml (drive letters are seen differently from different OS's). I then deleted the iTunes library.itl file from iTunes in XP, then restarted it. It doesn't see any music at all. Everything is blank. I tried opening the library.xml file, which imported all the playlist names I had, but still no music. I went to "add file to library", selected a song, and nothing happened. Same with adding a folder. I also tried dragging folders and files and dropping them in the iTunes window. Nothing. No error message, nothing. I tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes. Still no effect. At this point I don't care about the state of my library; I just want to be able to get my music on iTunes again. All the files are already organized by iTunes in its own folder. Help?
