I think my computer may be infected with a virus. I recently downloaded VBA and the Pokemon Silver game (I own it; it's just that the internal battery life ran out on the one I own). I scanned both files with Jotti's scanner and found that VBA had malware. However, on the official site (which was rated very trustable by MyWOT) it said that a .dll file may create a false positive. The program itself seems really famous and well-known, so I decided to run it anyway. The day after I did so, NoScript refused to run on FireFox, MapleStory told me to install it when I tried to run it (even though I had already installed it) and would give me errors if I tried to. However, the application itself still runs fine, despite the fact that the shortcut LEADS to MapleStory itself. The shortcut is located on my desktop. Also, a popup from livejasmin.com popped up automatically without my consent (or maybe it got through because NoScript wasn't working), but fortunately MyWOT blocked it. When I tried to use HiJackThis, it said that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. Restarting my computer does not fix the MapleStory problem, but the NoScript issue seems to have been settled for now. Both the program and the game work fine.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Thank you for reopening up my topic. I have scanned the file with VirusTotal, another scanner that I've recently learned about, and it concluded no malware (hxxp://www.virustotal.com/analisis/2a75407562ac6eb1e968a2d216485b21), clearing it of at least a large amount of doubt. However, I have reason to believe now that the problem may be caused by a whole different game, Clean Asia. This game is freeware and has been released on TIGdb (hxxp://db.tigsource.com/games/clean-asia), where I downloaded it. Maybe the download link is tainted/hacked? Despite the positive comments, the file is listed as malware by Virustotal (hxxp://www.virustotal.com/analisis/3c280f9a1f2272a57b0cc2653261d089). Also, when I first downloaded the game, it wouldn't run. Or rather, it would, but the game would refuse to show up. Later, I found the program still loading through Task Manager, chewing up 60% of my CPU. I end tasked the program.

Here is the new recently-run HiJackThis log

Hi IOwnAComputer,

Welcome to BC HijackThis forum and sorry for the delay. I am farbar. I am going to assist you with your problem.

Please refrain from making any changes to your system (updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might prolong handling your log and make the job for both of us more difficult.
  • Please post the the scan result of the file flagged by Virustotal as malware.

  • Please make a program list with Hijackthis:
  • Open HijackThis and click Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

You forgot to give me the log asked in step 1, please post the Virustotal scan result.
  • You forgot to post the Virustotal scan result.

  • If you don't have a Dial-up connection (I think you have a broadband connection) go to Programs and Features in Control Panel and uninstall the following program:

    NetWaiting

  • Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Look for "Java Runtime Environment (JRE)" JRE 6 Update 13.
  • Click the Download button to the right.
  • Select your Platform: "Windows".
  • Select your Language: "Multi-language".
  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
  • Under Required Files, check the box for Windows Offline Installation, click the link below it and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u13-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
-- If using Windows Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissions, then Run As Administrator.
-- If you choose to update via the Java applet in Control Panel, uncheck the option to install the Toolbar unless you want it.
-- The uninstaller incorporated in this release removes previous Updates 10 and above, but does not remove older versions, so they still need to be removed manually.

Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click Ok and reboot your computer.

Sorry for the wait. I misread the Java installer's name and was wondering why everything worked differently than in the instructions. I have also uninstalled NetWaiting, as I do not use Dial-Up. Also, the VirusTotal link was in my second post: hxxp://www.virustotal.com/analisis/3c280f9a1f2272a57b0cc2653261d089.

Thank you for your help :D

  • I see the Virustotal is indicating a strong suspicious. You may either remove the clean_asia.zip or upload it to virustotal again. I will indicate that the file is analyzed before, click Reanalyse File Now button and copy and paste the scan result.

  • The following program is reinstalled with Dell computers and there are has been some objection about it. You may uninstall it if you decide to:

    Browser Address Error Redirector

If you uninstalled it also delete the following folder at the next restart: C:\Program Files\Dell\BAE

  • Click on this link--> virustotal

Click the browse button. Copy and paste the line in bold in the open box, then click Send File.

    c:\windows\system32\11ba7d00.dll

If the file is analyzed before, click Reanalyse File Now button.
Please copy and paste the results of the scan in your next post.

  • Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report
  • Now, click on the Save Report as button.
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

The link doesn't give me any scan result.

These files were on the log you posted on 21-05 and the files arrived the same. Both of the files have the same size and I think they are identical files with different names. They are hidden files. Or they are deleted again or you can't see them because they are hidden.

In addition to the previous post:

Go to start > Run copy/paste the following line in the run box and click OK.

cmd /c (dir /a /s "c:\136f7402.dll" & dir /a /s "c:\11ba7d00.dll") >log.txt&log.txt del log.txt

A command window opens. Wait until a log.txt file opens. Please post the content to your reply.

Yes, I'm just trying to see how I can make the code work. Currently "cmd /c (dir /a /s "c:\136f7402.dll" & dir /a /s "c:\11ba7d00.dll") >log.txt&log.txt del log.txt" put in Run opens a dialog box, but only for a split second. Whether anything is there or not is unknown because it closes too quickly. Since the VirusTotal link doesn't work apparently, I resolved to simply post the results of the scan that it gave me, if that is OK with you. Sorry if it seemed like I left the thread.
