Google Redirects, popups, slow loading using Mozilla. Open Office Docs won't open. Please help! HJT log incl.

UC Berkeley student and I'm supposed to be writing my thesis which is due soon (tomorrow actually), but am instead entirely inconvenienced by all the computer virus issues I'm running into. I need a solution SOON.

I downloaded Avast while in Safe Mode and then had it run prior to restarting my laptop in regular mode and that seemed to solve the bulk of my issues.

I've tried everything, including various scanners like Avast, Win Patrol, SpyDoc, ComboFixer, GoRedFix, and more but many don't catch whatever it is and others that do detect it just can't seem to get rid of it...

I had a huge mess of problems and I think they are solved except for these:

1-Google searches are redirected, unless I "ctrl" click cashe several times at once. In that case usually one of the pages will be a proper page instead of a scam search site or a random junk site.
2-OpenOffice docs aren't opening. (They did right after I first ran Avast, but not any more.)
3-This virus somehow crept over to my boyfriend's computer. He hadn't downloaded any programs all month, but yesterday his Google searches began being redirected too and his computer exhibits everything I mentioned in problem 1 but not 2.

All of this started for me a weeks and 2 days ago. My professor said I needed to submit my thesis in Word 2003 which I don't have and haven't needed throughout all of my time at UC Berkeley, and really won't really need again after I graduate. A classmate showed me that he got his MS Word from isohunt. (Beginning of the end...) I stupidly decided I'd try the same.


So here I am. As if wrapping up my thesis wasn't stressful enough, all of this is truly blowing my mind right now. :step4: :) :step1: :step5: :thumbup2:


Please help me solve this so I can get back to my thesis and graduate next month!

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. You can find information on A/V control HERE
