What you can do is, setup your computer to boot on the CD Drive as #1, usually done in the system BIOS. Put your Windows XP disc in the CD Drive and restart your computer. Your computer should then let you go through a setup allowing you to *Reformat your hard drive and install Windows XP!
*Warning: This will erase all data on your drive, recommended to save all pictures/videos/selected files to an External hard drive or DvD/CD Rom disc.
*Watch out when setting up partitions to not delete the partition that had your old Vista O/S. (If your laptop had its O/S pre-loaded on the hard drive)
Entering BIOS by restarting your computer, and while its in the post screen and starting up, just keep pressing the F9 key (Or F8 I cannot remember).
Give this a shot!
