Hi, i was wondering if i could get some help on the removal of Spy Sherriff on my computer. I've noticed a lot of the cases concerning removal of the Spy Sherriff program involve somewhat of a "customized" removal for each user based on the programs they're running and such so PLEASE HELP! It's been very frustrating trying to get this program off my computer.

I've already ran SpyBot, Ad-Aware and Microsoft AntiSpyware to no avail as like the rest of the users complaining about this same program, it reinstalls itself each time upon restart.

Here is my HijackThis log. I appreciate any help given.

Below is my new HijackThis log. SpySherriff doesn't pop up at startup again but under START>ALL Programs the file folder is still there but is not present when going into MY COMPUTER> PROGRAM FILES.

I fixed all problems in HijackThis except for the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ri1d.dll which i could not locate in HijackThis. I did however find it when I went into C:\Program Files manually but did not delete the file.

My desktop is still frozen with the annoying blue screen and still won't let me alter it.

Thanks again for your help and fast reply!

Hi,

Your hijackthislog looks clean. :thumbsup:

About the spysheriff-icon in your start > all programs.. Rightclick on it and choose delete.
About the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ri1d.dll ... you are telling me you found it in your Program Files?? Normally it says it is present in your system32-folder.
So search for it and delete it.

Now about your desktop..

Search on your C:\Windows for a file called desktop.html and delete it.

Download http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/reg/smitfraud.reg and save it on your desktop
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to add the content to the registry, click yes/ok.

REBOOT

Then.... Open notepad and copy and paste next contents in bold in it:

regedit /e peek.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies"
regedit /e peek2.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop"
type peek.txt>>look.txt
type peek2.txt>>look.txt
del peek*.txt
start notepad look.txt

Save this as look.bat
Choose to save as *all files.
Now doubleclick on look.bat and notepad will open with some txt in it.
Copy and paste this in your next reply.

Good, now open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4 in it!)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop]
"NoChangingWallpaper"=-
"NoComponents"=-
"NoAddingComponents"=-
"NoDeletingComponents"=-
"NoEditingComponents"=-
"NoHTMLWallPaper"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoActiveDesktop"=-

Save this as fix.reg
Choose to save as *all files and doubleclick on it to merge to contents to the registry.
Reboot and tell me how things are running.
