As requested, a few extra things to add, i cannot install/uninstall a program because Windows Installer just freezes, cannot use task manager to kill a process.... cannot boot in safe mode (only comes up with black screen)... Windows explorer also comes up as "Not Responding" but operates ok if i disable all add ons .... currently all start up programs have been disabled but problem still persists. Also the attach.txt did not come up when i ran the dds.scr

As requested DDS.txt attatched, other file (attach.txt) did not open ...

... All issues are as follows:
-Internet explorer does not launch ... only time it will is if all addons are disabled and will operate OK
-Google Chrome operates fine though
-Windows Installer does not work thus i cannot install or install a program
-task manager does not work, so i cannot kill a process, the task manager icon comes in the system tray so it is running, but will not open
-Will not boot in "Safe Mode"
-iTunes not working
-When trying to Shut Down / Logoff / Restart etc... computer just comes up with "Logging off" and hangs on that screen, no matter how long i keep it, will not shut down.

I havent done much yet as I cant use the Windows Installer, have ran malwarebytes antivirus software which came up with no infections....

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Hello, yahya300785 :thumbup2:
We Need to Run ComboFix

Note to readers of this post other than the starter of this thread:
ComboFix is a VERY POWERFUL tool which should NOT BE USED without guidance of an expert.

If this tool helped you, please consider a donation to it's author: Posted Image

How to run ComboFix:
  • Please download ComboFix from one of the following mirrors, and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any running Anti-Virus or Anti-Malware programs. This includes Firewalls, Anti-Virus, Spyware Scanners, etc. Any or all of them may interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Double click Posted Image on your desktop.
  • Read and accept (Press Yes) to the disclaimer.
  • For Windows XP Systems: Install the Recovery Console:
    • If you are using Windows XP and do not already have the Recovery Console installed, please ensure your internet connection is active (if possible), and press Yes. If for some reason your internet is not working, please press No. If you are not using Windows XP, you will not be prompted.
    • When prompted to accept the EULA, press OK.
    • Accept Microsoft's EULA (Press Yes).
    • When you are told that the RC is installed correctly, please press YES to continue scanning for malware.
  • ComboFix will run. Simply wait for it to finish.
  • When it finishes, ComboFix will produce a log. Please post that log in your next reply here :)
NOTE: If ComboFix will not run, please rename it to GlobRemover.exe and try again!

In your next reply, please include the following:
  • ComboFix.txt

Hello, yahya300785 :thumbup2:
We need to re-run ComboFix with some additonal directives.
  • Please disable any running anti-virus programs.

If you are unsure how to do this, see this topic: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/114351/how-to-temporarily-disable-your-anti-virus-firewall-and-anti-malware-programs/

  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  • Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Well I just cant seem to turn off McAfee, the VirusScan and Firewall show to be running according to the log, however I do not have it in my program list or the system tray.

Have ran ComboFix after dropping CFScript.txt over it with the result attached.

Thank

The log can make mistakes ;) If McAfee was running the tool would likey have failed to operate.

Please let me know if you like the ESET instructions ... they are new.

I'd like us to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan
  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on Posted Image to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the Posted Image icon on your desktop.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Click the Posted Image button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Posted Image
  • Push the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the Posted Image button.
  • Push Posted Image
In your next reply, please include the following:
  • ESET OnlineScan's Log

ESET Scan Report

Just in regards to useability, ESET was easy and a quick scan. Results were similar to Kapersky, except Kapersky takes about 4 times longer.

also i like the ESET has the ability to quarantine viruses, which many online scanners do not offer

Hello, yahya300785 :step4:
Hehe... I was refering more to how I wrote the instructions, but thank you :step1:

Congratulations! You now appear clean! :thumbup2:

Are things running okay? Do you have any more questions?

System Still Slow?
You may wish to try StartupLite. Simply download this tool to your desktop and run it. It will explain any optional auto-start programs on your system, and offer the option to stop these programs from starting at startup. This will result in fewer programs running when you boot your system, and should improve preformance.
If that does not work, you can try the steps mentioned in Slow Computer/browser? Check Here First; It May Not Be Malware
We Need to Remove ComboFix
  • Please go to Start -> Run
  • Enter "ComboFix /u" (without quotes). Note the space betwen "ComboFix" and "/u", it needs to be there.
    Posted Image
  • Press OK (Or hit enter).
  • Allow ComboFix to remove itself.
We Need to Clean Up Our Mess
  • Please download OTCleanIt from one of the following mirrors and save it to your desktop:
  • Double click the Posted Image icon.
  • Push the large "Cleanup" button.
  • Allow your system to reboot.
Recommendations
Below are some recommendations to lower your chances of (re)infection.
  • Install Spyware Blaster and update it regularly
If you wish, the commercial version provides automatic updating.
  • Install the MVPs hosts file, and update it regularly
You can use the HostMan host file manager to do this automaticly if you wish.
For more information on the hosts file, and what it can do for you, you can view the Tutorial on the Hosts file
  • Install an Anti-Spyware program, and update it regularly
Malware Byte's Anti Malware is an excellent Anti-Spyware scanner. It's scan times are usually under ten minutes, and has excellent detection and removal rates.
SUPERAntiSpyware is another good scanner with high detection and removal rates.
Both programs are free for non commercial home use but provide a resident and do not nag if you purchase the paid versions.
  • Keep Windows (and your other Microsoft software) up to date!
I cannot stress how important this is enough. Often holes are found in Internet Explorer or Windows itself that require patching. Sometimes these holes will allow an attacker unrestricted access to your computer.

If you are using Windows XP or earlier
Visit the Microsoft Update Website and follow the on screen instructions to setup Microsoft Update. Also follow the instructions to update your system. Please REBOOT and repeat this process until there are no more updates to install!!

If you are using Windows Vista
    • Click the "Start Menu" (or Windows Orb)
    • Click "All Programs"
    • Click "Windows Update"
    • On the left, choose "Change Settings"
    • Ensure that the checkbox "Use Microsoft Update" at the bottom of the window is checked.
    • Press OK and accept the UAC prompt.
Note: You shouldn't need to check this checkbox every single time you update, only the first time.
    • Click "Check for Updates" in the upper left corner.
    • Follow the instructions to install the latest updates.
    • Reboot and repeat the "Check for Updates" until there are no more critical updates to install
  • Keep your other software up to date as well
Software does not need to be made by Microsoft to be insecure. You can use the Secunia Online Software occasionally to help you check for out of date software on your machine.
  • Stay up to date!
The MOST IMPORTANT part of any security setup is keeping the software up to date. Malware writers release new variants every single day. If your software updates don't keep up, then the malware will always be one step ahead. Not a good thing :).

Hi Billy3,

Sorry to bother but cool if I am clean from malware,

However still pretty much experiencing the same problems:

Windows Updater says "downloading updates - 0% complete" and just stays like that - wont search or install updates
Still cannot install/uninstall a program or use task manager
cant logoff or restart properly
Iv used OTScan (however was unable to restart properly) and also removed ComboFix
Downloaded Malware Bytes but fails to install

Can anything else be done? Thanks.

I should donate towards summat once everythings sorted, coz u and the team have been fab so far. Great work.

Hello, yahya300785 :thumbup2:
Let me know if doing this helps.

We need to back up your registry
  • Please download ERUNT and save it to your desktop.
(ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
  • Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
  • Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
  • Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
  • Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
  • Press OK
  • Press YES to create the folder.
We need to execute a Batch File
  • Go to Start -> Run, and type "notepad" into the box.
  • Press ok.
  • Copy and paste the following code into notepad:
    sc stop wuauserv
    sc stop msiserver
    del /f /s /q C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\*
    reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msiserver
    netsh winsock reset
  • Go to File -> Save
  • To the right of "Save as Type:" in the bottom of the window, change the ComboBox to "All Files"
  • Enter fix.bat into the "File name:" box just above the "Save as Type" box.
  • Double click fix.bat on your desktop.
We need to preform operations on your registry.
