What does ( Error 6118 ) mean when in (MS-DOS) I get it after I type net view. And when I type ( ipconfig ) in Run it opens for a split second, then disappears. Why ? Very wierd. ....O.S..Windows ME

O.K. I was able to ping successfully. But I still need to figure out why the ( ipconfig ) opens then closes right after. Hmm.. ( O.S. Windows ME )...BTW I was using wrong command prompt. That is why error 6118 showed .

Nevermind. I figured out the (ipconfig) out too. I typed the wrong thing in Run and typed the wrong command prompt in MS-DOS. It is awful early, but just in case anyone was trying to help, I want to say Thank You.

Thank You !...... O.K. , Now this is in Windows ME (not sure 'bout other o.s.) In Run under Start.... Type command...... MS-DOS will open...........then type....winipcfg.... press....( Enter Key)....Box will open. ......Click on (more info) ......Note the DNS Address.....Close box........ Then type..... ping (leave a space) then type in DNS Address...Press (enter key) .......This will ping your desktop...... Check the (Ping Stats.) ....If you have 3 or 4 packets sent and received , your Internet Connection is working. ........ If all 4 packets lost , you are not connected to the Internet. .........If 2 or 3 packets lost, Internet Connection not working realiably, caused by problems w/ hardware that connect you to your I.S.P or your L.A.N.

I've used a freeware item called "AlertPing" rather than take the time
to go through all the other "games" with MS XP...

It's one of the programs I keep in my traveling CD library to also
be able to help others. There are a lot of similiar items out there.
