CPU at 100% usage

My computer has been acting up ever since i downloaded a dodgey crack for a PC optimizing program off the internet ... (which was really stupid)

I'm not sure whether that was the reason but i had to install it and it may have infected my registry ... I was actually trying to speed up my PC.

I had defragged my system, virus scanned, spyware scaned, 'CCleaner' scanned it and then ...

A few days after that my computer started slowing down dramatically it took 20mins to start up, hours to simply browse folders and then i realised that my CPU usage was at 100%!

I deleted all recently added programs and files i could think of (including the cracks) and it didn't help ... ran more scans, which took 19hrs for a scan that would usually take 3hrs. So i decided to back up my documents and all personal files (which took 2 days) and reformat ...

I had heard that vista should be reformatted once a year anyway, so firstly i did re-install of the system on top the old one ( which didnt affect the constant 100% CPU usage). So i had boot from the disk and format the main disk. I installed windows once more and there was no difference.

And here i am ...

Now i have had my lappy for 1.5 years now its battery needs to be replaced (coz it keeps flashing a red light at me) and its has overheated in the past (problem fixed with lappy stand now)

I've used process explorer and it is system idle that is boosting the CPU usage up, i have read the reasons for why it happens, but i don't fully understand why it started up after 1.5 years of perfect lappy performance.

SInce the reformat the OS has still been lagging and the CPU remains above 50% (should this be right on a fresh install of vista? with basically no apps installed)

Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 @ 2.2GHz
3.00GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
