I recentley got the adware virus which causes DNS errors, viagra adverts to appear on webpages, and programs such as Windows Update to not able to update, plus redirecting google results - this virus appears to be very common but I still thought it was would be useful for someone to check my log first from "HijackThis" I would be very great grateful for advice on which sections of the log need fixing and other steps after this -

I have attached the log but will also paste it below just incase you want a quick look -

I recently downloaded a file and after opening it found a number of symptoms started to appear from what I guess is a adware/virus:
- Windows Update fails (I have heard this is from the virus changing my DNS address)
- Disabled Windows firewall
- Disabled my virus protection
- Redirects me on google search results often and when I click on a hyperlink in the results it redirects me to a viagra advertisement website or just a website that I did not click on the link for
- 95% of all websites on webpages are related to viagra and the sales of viagra pills
- It stops nearly all programs from updating, such as virus software

I really need help as I've been trying AVG but that hasn't been success as all that it detects is a gxansjdakjsbdkjabdkj.dll file, of which I remove as power user but it still comes up every time I open either Safari or Internet Explorer, I've even tried looking for it with hidden files being shown and looking in the Systems32 folder in Windows, in the C: hard-drive but its not their or its not visible :S

I have attached a log from HijackThis but will do anything to get rid of this virus/adware - by the way, I use windows vista premium

Many thanks,
Jack

Please make sure you disable ALL of your Antivirus/Antispyware/Firewall before running ComboFix.. Please visit HERE if you don't know how.. Please re-enable them back after performing all steps given..

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from one of the locations below, and save it to your Desktop.Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.

If ComboFix asked you to install Recovery Console, please do so.. It will be your best interest..

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a fresh HijackThis log in your next reply..

Note: DON'T do anything with your computer while ComboFix is running.. Let ComboFix finishes its job..

Keep calm, make it simple, use your brain, don't freak out, and you'll be just fine..

I haven't seen any antivirus in your logs.. Antivirus is extremely crucial as without it you will get re-infected again! Do you have any? If you don't, please install ONLY ONE of these free and excellent antivirus below:

I completed Combofix and everything seemed to run fine and all the symptoms seemed to have disappeared, am I full cured?

Lets verify it with an online scan..

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the options Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

Keep calm, make it simple, use your brain, don't freak out, and you'll be just fine..
