I am trying to convert some old VCD's to *.avi files. The first step is to copy the *.dat file to my computer and I'm having trouble in the copying process. A warning comes up that says " Can't copy ...the parameter is incorrect" I can still plays these discs on my Sony VCR player. Is their any way to get these discs copied on my computer?

Thanks

Hi .

It helps if we know just where you are getting this guidance...what program are you using in order to attempt conversion of the file?

Windows Movie Maker sounds like it ought to do that conversion very easily, if it can read the file.

Firstly I copy both *.dat files (cd 1+cd 2) to my hard drive then I put these thru VCDGear to create an *.mpg file. Then I convert to an *.avi file so I can burn 5 or 6 to a DVD disc that will play on my DVD player.

But I stymied if I can't even copy the *.dat files to my hard drive.

If you cannot copy a file from a CD to a hard drive...I would suspect that the CD needs cleaning or the system cannot read files which are corrupt/damaged.

Have you tried looking up your exact error message, using Google?
