I'm trying to install Windows XP Home Edition (using a reinstallation CD from a previous desktop) on a machine that I just built myself. It gets most of the way through the install, then when it says "setup is starting windows", the computer shuts itself off, and the installation fails. I've gotten this error multiple times when trying to install. The computer also shuts itself off if I let it sit for awhile on the BIOS options page. I know it's not a heat issue...any ideas as to what the cause of this headache could be?

Anyone have any ideas as to why it would shut down when sitting on the BIOS options screen?

Overheating? Power supply? CMOS battery? RAM?

I've never seen a system shut down while in the BIOS, but I'm a home user only.

Last, but not least...motherboard problem?
