Hi all! Hope someone can help me fix this one since I really dont wanna have to reformat. I ignorantly downloaded UNICCODEC from a bogus site. As soon as I did, all hell broke loose. Mcafee found and deleted 2 trojans but my browser was still hijacked. It made me unable to run Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I was also unable to use system restore. When I uninstalled both of them and tried to reinstall, I kept getting redirected away from download.com. I ran hijackthis and found 4 lines beginning with 017 that had a url that didnt belong to my isp so i deleted the 017 entries. This helped me move around better but im still badly infected. Im running xp home. Not sure what else u might need. Any suggestions other than the obvious "Don't download UNICCODEC?" Thanks!

More. The problem I'm having now is that Internet Explorer is totally hijacked. I can get to most websites with Opera but I cant download Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool unless I use IE.

HI, The Unicodec virus causes quite a few problems and is quite dangerous. You can rid yourself of all the problems, by formatting etc, but here is what you can do.

1. Download Autoeater. You can find it in a google search. Autoeater will remove the autorun inf files from all your drives. IT will also fix the changes to your registry etc, Very easy to use.

2. Go to your control panel and open your network connections. Check to ensure your dns is set to automatically find your dns. This unicodec virus changes your dns to a rouge setting, allowing administraters of that dns to get all your credit card numbers, passwords , logins etc. ONce you fix this, another problem will be solved.

3. Download avg free 8.5. install it completely. Then unplug your internet connection after your complete install, and run a scan of your whole computer.

4. Check your internet explorer add on options, and just make sure you got no add ons enabled you do not know about.

Should be good to go. Worked for me, and I was a fool to get the codec as well. YOU know you shouldnt have right lol ?
