I have a XP Home machine that whenever I startup IE 7.0, it closes right away (within a few seconds). It looks like it will start
loading the page, then just closes. Also in my Control Panel, there is a icon for Internet Options (without the "Internet Options" text
lable), but I cannot click or do anything with it. I also can not right click on the IE icon and get to the properties. I have run Spybot
to no avail. I tried re-installing IE 7.0 (downloaded from another machine). It went through the whole install and said it installed
successfully, however it couldn't download the updates. I restarted and the windows update said their were updates available, but I
haven't installed them yet and that is where I sit. IE still does the same thing currently. I did notice in the hosts file there is a entry
of "216.203.102.48 SC00102". I'm not sure what that is, maybe dealing with my wireless connection? Before I reinstalled IE, I took
it out, restarted and it didn't make a difference. One thing (before I re-installed IE) I did was to put "c:\windows\ie7\intcpl.cpl" into
"c:\windows\system32\intcpl.cpl" and that got my Internet Options back (their gone again now), but it didn't fix the closing out issue.
Some things I have yet to try that I plan on doing after researching on the web:
- Making sure that Windows Firewall and SecureIT Firewall are both not running
- Run HijackThis and get rid of any BHO with no names
- Try to install the IE updates it says are available
- Try installing IE8
- Making sure there are no toolbar 'helpers' in add/remove programs
- If all else fails, I'll restore back to a earlier registry (issue is a week old or so)
Other than that I have really looked all over the Internet and haven't found many that have a solution to this issue. Does anyone have any
other ideas?
I REALLY REALLY appreciate any and all help. Thanks a LOT!!!!
