How do I mark a topic I started as solved?

To answer the original question: I think the best you can do for now, and something that everyone reading will appreciate, is simply to make a "last post" in the thread saying something like
  • "the suggestion/technique to ... solved the problem" (if the solution was contained in one of the reponses), or
  • "I fixed the problem by ..." (if you discovered the solution on your own and it wasn't one the suggestions contained in the responses).
