I have the exact same problem!!!
though Im running Vista SP1

the "winibluesoft" installed red pop-ups appear at the bottom on the screen on login
tried system restore and it crashes the pc to BSOD saying 'reference_by_pointer' and 'page_fault_not_paged_area'

I was running norton but then changed to eset nod32
but couldnt get rid of norton completely as the uninstallation kept failing

attempted to use the 2 programs you mentioned though after installation in either normal or safe mode they wouldnt run
neither would spybot nor AVG, so cant even scan the pc as eset stopped working aswell

firefox/IE opens though it redirects to advert pages and causes a crash
so now using another pc

this doesnt seem to be a common problem searching google

uninstalled the winibluesoft removed the startup item and
removed all i could find in the registry with no luck after reboot into normal or safe mode

maybe reformat time?

Pasting in additional information from another post. ~ OB

New info

After looking through f-secure/norton/avg/spybot current virus databases none of them even seem to recognise this hijacker virus, which is makes me wonder whether its new?!....which would explain why the only people i can find with this problem have only contracted it recently as in the last month only

If this threads needs to be under 'Am I infected' could an admin move it please, to save time.

Hello sam43,,

I know you were talking about reformatting your computer. If you decide to go that route and have questions about the process, please start a new topic in the Windows XP forum that discusses ONLY reformatting and let us know in a response to this topic that that is what you have decided to do.

Otherwise, please wait for folks more knowledgeable than I to address your infection issues.
