Hi all,
Yesterday my boyfriend downloaded some free video converters, and cleared our cookies and temporary internet files, and I'm sure the problem stems from there. Since then, many weird, seeming unrelated things have happened, but I think they must be related because they all started yesterday evening, after he'd installed these programs.

Basically, whenever I do a search on Google and click on a result, it opens in a new window, sometimes taking me to the website I want, and sometimes redirecting me to an ad. I've checked my preferences, and they say that I don't want the links to open in a new window, but it also says that my cookies are turned off. I've checked, and they don't seem to be, but other websites are also telling me the same thing.

I checked on Safari, and Firefox, as well as Internet Explorer 7, and the same thing happens on all of them, on my computer. I tried doing a system restore from three different restore points, and the same thing happens each time. It restarts, but gives an error saying that there was a hard drive failure, and so the system restore failed.

Also, for some Google results, instead of the description of the website, it comes up with some code, for example: 'class="f">12 posts - 4 authors - Last post: 27 Feb'

Here is my DDS.txt report:

I know this all seems very odd, but hopefully someone will recognise the problem!

Thankyou very much in advance,
