Hi, ive been referred over to this forum as Ive been infected. Topic referenced is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/215827/browser-redirects-and-keeps-closing-down/ ~ OB I dont know what it is but Ive been told it may be a rootkit/backdoor trojan. The problem is my browser keeps re-directing and closing down. The re-directs happen when I am clicking links on Google. I cant access this forum (and a few other places) through my pc so im posting here via a laptop so i can post logs. My browser seems to close around 15/20 times a day.

I couldnt run the DDS program so i was advised to use RSIT instead.

Thanks and here is the log:

Hi,

From the previous thread I see you have used MBAM and installed the database update manually. That update was even more outdated. The manual update has been updated, so...
  • Please download and install the database from here <== it's updated.
  • Once the updates are downloaded, perform a full scan again.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log, then we'll proceed from there with new steps.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Hi,

Looks like a new variant here...

Navigate to your C:\Windows folder and search for the file regedit.exe
Rightclick it and select to rename the file. Rename it to reg3dit.exe
Then launch the reg3dit.exe in order to open your Registry Editor.

There, browse to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\drivers32

You'll see on the left that you can expand the keys (they will look like folders). So expand them until you get drivers32
Rightclick the drivers32 key (folder) and select to export:

Posted Image

Give it a name and export it as a txtfile on your desktop.

Then copy and paste the contents of it in your next reply.

If confused, please ask first.

Extra note.. after you have used the renamed regedit.exe (reg3dit.exe), look in your Windows folder if Windows File Protection placed a new regedit.exe there again (it should). If not, then rename reg3dit.exe back to regedit.exe.

Hi,

It actually suprises me that you can access bleepingcomputers here, because this malware normally blocks it, unless it has changed again. That's why I need a sample first...
Go to this page.
Enter the url of this thread in the first field.
Where it says, browse to the file that you want to submit, click the browse button next to it and browse to next file:

C:\WINDOWS\feomgt.rek

Select it and click ok.
Then click the Send File button below.

Then, * Open hijackthis, click 'config' (bottom right)
Choose the tab 'misc Tools' on top.
Choose 'delete a file on reboot'
In the field, copy and paste next:

C:\WINDOWS\feomgt.rek

Click open.
Hijackthis will tell you that this file will be deleted on next reboot and if you want to reboot now. Click Yes/ok
Your system should reboot now.

Then, Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
"aux2"="wdmaud.drv"

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

I cant access Bleepingcomputer from my PC. Im having to do it from a laptop so involves saving info in my gmail so I can access on both sides (ie pc and laptop).

Ill look at your reply and come back to you.

Cheers :thumbup2:

In that case, you can also send it via gmail (zip up the file) to your other computer to upload, or transfer via thumbdrive. The file itself won't do anything anyway because on the clean computer there are no loading points present to load it :thumbup2:

Thanks miekiemoes. Ive done all of the above and let me check to see if it has made a difference. I will check throughout the day and report back.

EDIT:

It seems to be OK and I can get through to Bleeping Computer which is a good sign of course!! :thumbup2:

Ill keep checking to see if the re-directs and browser closing down have completely gone or not.

Hi,

It should be gone now though. Normally you should also be able again to read my blog where I blogged about this variant:
http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/10/fak...archengine.html
When infected, you can't access it as either.

And glad I could help :thumbup2:
