hi recently i was having problems with ventrilo so i reinstalled my audio drivers and made sure they were up to date. After doing this i now have no sound on my computer. under device manager the sound device is listed and is labeled as working, but in the taskbar there is a little speaker with a red "x" on it and when i right click to open volume mixer it says "No audio device is installed" (even though there is one listed in device manager). ive tried both the newest version of the driver and the driver than came already installed on my laptop (driver cd) with no effect.

specs:
audio device: SigmaTel High Definition Audio Codec
Laptop: Dell xps m1530
Vista: Home Premium 32bit

any ideas? thanks in advance

Where did you download the driver from?
Is it a red x and not a circle with a slash through it?

k so i called dell support and wasn't sure what was wrong but suggested it may be do to a virus messing around with the registry and it may have corrupted a file or something. i ran a virus scan and it found nothing but when i restart my comp (has been happening for a while i've just ignored it) i get the rundll error unable to load wingzy32.rom module cannot be found. is this because of a virus? and how do i remove it? i tried google but "wingzy32.rom" doesn't return any results.

thanks in advance
