ok well i reformated my pc but now it wont connect to the internet. I checked my device manager and it recognizes my network adapter, however there is a PCI Gameport Controller that has the yellow exclamation mark on it. So I looked for the driver, but it is for windows 98. So anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

Did this Network card ever work in XP? I couldn't find a driver for XP, so it's either part of the embedded driver suite ,or it's not compatible, or something else is wrong with it.

Does the card show up in Device Manager as shown here. http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...s/wxpnicch.html

Is the link light on on the back of your Network Card.(NIC)?
Are you connected to a router? Does a light show up indicating that your connected to the router?
What happens when you ping your local interface? Click Start, Run, type cmd, type in ping 127.0.0.1, press the Enter key.
Have you tried removing the device from Device Manager, to see if it's picked up again by XP?
What Service Pack are you using? SP3?

Ok well I went out and bought a new network card. This one is a dlink, however I have I still get the same problem. I look in device manager it shows dlink under network and if I go into Internet connection it show dlink. However I did ipconfig in the command but I don't get a defult gateway or a DNS suffix. And I still can't connect to the Internet so it has to be something with the computer is there some setting i'm suppose to change or something. I did install the driver too. So now I'm very stumped...it also does pick up the card becuase when i disconnect the ethernet cable from the back it says network cable disconnected. and it shows the green light in the back when it is connected.

Do you get an IP address?
Have you tried a different port on your router? A different LAN cable? Do you have any other computers on your network that are working? Did you check your router?

What address are you getting? Did you get a gateway address? What type of router are you using? Restart your network equipment, wait a couple of minutes before powering it back on, and restart your computer again.

And your PS3 is working? Could you use the cable connected to the PS3 on your computer? Do any lights show on the router indicate that you are connected? You could try resetting the router, normally there's a reset button on the router that can be activated by holding it in with a paperclip for several seconds(7 secs usually).

Can you connect to the internet if you plug your computer directly into your cable/DSL modem? Please turn off all of your equipment, try to connect directly to your modem(without any connection to the router), and turn all the equipment back on again, and try again and let us know.
