I know this is supposed to be for problems but I am so overjoyed about something I feel the need to share it in the hopes it might help someone else.

I'll make this as brief as I can.

I recently switched from Verizon internet service to cable (Cox Communications here in Virginia Beach). I was using Avira Antivirus w/Verizon but I got the free McAfee w/Cox so I figured I'd give it a shot.

First off, the McAfee really seemed to slow my system down. Something just didn't seem right. Then, about 3 days ago, I was absolutely bombarded with this frickin' Generic!Artemis trojan; I couldn't surf the web hardly at all because of the constant popups from McAfee and the redirects. Yeah, I did the obvious, ran a scan, found incidents, McAfee worked it's "magic" for about a day, then boom!, back to where I was w/the popups and redirects.

I am not a computer genius by any stretch of the imagination but I know when something's working and something isn't. McAfee is pure bunk.

I remembered how I never had any problems using the free Avira. Ok so long story short:
website
download Avira
remove McAfee
run Avira scan (40 detections compared to McAfee's 4)
banished trojan to wherever trojans get banished to, happy happy computer, estatic computer user.

I mean, it's amazing the difference. I don't have a "top of the line" system, it's 4 years old, but man it's fast as lightening now.

I didn't want to mess w/all the Hijacking and downloading because my computer was so damn slow anyway and it just seems too complicated to me. I wanted a simple solution.

So if you're plagued with this Artemis trojan and have McAfee, get rid of it. Use Avira.
