Hi guys, I got hit with a new case of malware the other day. I was looking at sites for MBA programs online and Spybot came up with a notice that a site had tried to install a trojan on my computer. Firefox froze up for a while, but I figured that Spybot took care of it. Soon after this happened my browser started getting redirected to sites for insurance companies and such when I clicked on Google search results. I also noticed that my antivirus, antimalware, and others will not update. I also can't configure my windows firewall. The oddest thing is that I can't access bleepingcomputer at all.

I tried to install and run DDS.scr by downloading it on another computer and transferring the file, but the infected computer will not even open the file. I was able, however, to run HJT and get a log file off.

I have tried Spybot (no threats detected), Adaware (no threats), Windows Defender (no threats), Malwarebytes (found and removed 4 threats), and CWS Shredder (no threats) on this, to no avail. Though updating these programs was hit or miss.

Below is the HJT log. Sorry that I couldn't run DDS and follow protocol. Thanks for your help in killing this malware in advance.

Hi, just wanted to update on some new symptoms of what ever is infecting my computer. My internet no longer works in Windows when I boot it up normally, though it still works in Safe Mode and my Ubuntu Live CD. When in Safe Mode, Firefox crashes after a few minutes, no matter what I'm doing on it. I have run a boot scan with Avast, which found a Trojan (JS:ScriptIP-inf) and removed it . I've run pretty much every virus scan that I've been able to get my hands on, trying to get my computer back to a working condition. I work online, so this thing is really hurting my productivity.

I was able to check my original Spybot log about the warning that I was given back when I believe I was infected. The log said that it "encountered and terminated Virtumonde in C:\windows\system32\~.exe".

I'm not sure if this helps, but that status of the computer has changed a lot since my original post. I appreciate any advice in resolving this.

Thanks!
Best Regards,
Jeff

Hello LizardKing64

Welcome to Welcome to BleepingComputer :thumbup2:
=====================
  • Download OTListIt2 to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTListIt2.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.
===========
Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner.
Click the Download exe button and save the randomly named file to your Desktop.

Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.

Double-click randomlynamed.exe. The program will begin to run.

**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any
"<--- ROOKIT" entries unless advised!

If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan.
  • Click NO
  • In the right panel, you will see a bunch of boxes that have been checked ... leave everything checked and ensure the Show all box is un-checked.
  • Now click the Scan button.
Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
  • Click OK.
  • GMER will produce a log. Click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "GMER.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
Post the contents of GMER.txt in your next reply.
Please do not pm for help, post it in the forums instead.

If I am helping you and have not responded for 48 hours please send me a pm as I don't always get notifications.

My help is always free, however, if you would like to make a donation to me for the help I have provided please click here Posted Image
