Operating system: Windows 98
The defrag operation does not display the details even though I ask for details. The screen for that area remains blank.

You could try doing it under DOS?

WIN 98 utilised DOS for many things.

It has been so long since I used it, but I am sure if you are patient someone will be able to give you the right Command to use. If you have a Windows 98 Start Up Disk, run that and look in the Help Files in it, it will give you the correct Command to use. If you have no Start Up Disk you can get one here, just download it onto a Floppy Disk, shut down and insert the disk and start up again.

Do you start the Defrag program from the Start menue or from a Desktop icon?

You do know to run the program off line and with no other activity going on on the computer?

Once you have asked the program to start and you see the box on the screan asking you which Drive to defragment ,what happens then ?
