Recently when my hp laptop is unplugged the battery icon does not appear! The device manager recognizes the battery, but that seems to be the only place that does. When the computer is unplugged, after about a minute or two everything just blacks out! I don't even know if the battery is recharged because there doesn't seem to be any way to tell. If anyone can offer me some thoughts it would be appreciated. THANX!!!

How old is your laptop? I have found that the laptop battery lasts about 3-4 years. Sounds like yours is dead, or it's no longer being charged when the AC is connected.

It sound like the battery is dead but you may want to have the ac power pack checked to.
