Hello team and thank you in advance for your help and efforts!

I was hit while trying to download some mp3's from airmp3.net I believe. McAfee Virusscan did its thing but it was obvious something was not right (slow speeds on opening anything, etc) so I started searching and found this site. Before registering or anything I read several post on what to do and how to fix. I downloaded Mbam and SUPERAntiSpyware. On 4/4 mbam took out a bunch of bad stuff and here is the quarantined items from SUPERAntiSpyware:
Rogue.MSAntiSpyware2009
Trojan.Agent/Gen-Koobface
Trojan.Dropper/SVCHost-Fake
Trojan.Dropper/Win-NV
Trojan.RootKit/Gen
Trojan.SVCHost/Fake

I read somewhere that you folks do not like attachments (don't blame you!) so I will post all of the other logs other than the DDS file attachment(attach.txt).

I have run the SDFix and that all seems good, followed the posting from your site. Downloaded NAI's Stinger and scanned with it, nothing found after mbam did its thing. Oh, saw that there was an update to mbam after the initial scan on the 4th, downloaded from this laptop, slapped it on a memory stick, re-installed mbam on my problem child desktop and it picked up 2 more (shown in mbam log below). Did same thing with HJT but have made no changes with it.

Since doing all of the above, the things I am seeing are VirusScan On Access continues blocking "bo.heap" with "Buffer Overflow Protection" when I try and open a browser. I've seen "LoadLibraryA" and GetProcAddress" under the name and they are being found in WINDOWS\explorer.exe and Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe. I opened word to paste a log file and VirusScan picked up one from the Microsoft office files as well! These things seem all over. Some sites open like bookmarked login to ebay, bookmarked login for wife's email at netaddress (funny, they need passwords to enter...). Most other sights give me the standard "can't connect" message. It will sit there and I see a flash of "connecting 127.0.0.1" at the bottom left, then the error message. After googling that from my laptop, that is just a loop I guess? Regardless, I do not know how to fix it.

I am sending you as much information as I could gather to hopefully make it easier for you. Please let me know if I can provide anything else and thank you so much for helping me out!

God Bless,

Brian

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. You can find information on A/V control HERE

Thanks for your response. The computer with the virus has not been turned on since I posted everything. I am using my laptop for all of these postings.

I posted quite a bit of info and the computer has not been used since.

I look forward to your response and thanks again,

Brian

Hello Brian

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds.txt log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Close all browser windows and refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Uninstall old Adobe Reader versions and get the latest one here or get Foxit Reader here. Make sure you don't install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader!

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:

Please run an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner as instructed in the screenshot here. If you get a message that latest Java must be installed "enable" the Java add-ons in IE7. Do that using "manage add-ons" from the IE7 toolbar.

Post back its report, a fresh dds.txt log and above mentioned ComboFix resultant log.

One more thing to note, after uninstalling Adobe Reader and then trying to re-install, VirusScan keeps stopping me from finishing the install with the Buffer Overflow Protection. Here is a copy from the "view log"

New discovery, sound does not work after combofix. It appears Tunebite was set to default and I do not see the option to set it back to normal.

Here are some screenshots in the word attachment.

Thanks!

Brian

Hi Brian,

That is most likely a false alarm. Please disable Buffer Overflow Protection (BOP) in McAfee while you install Adobe Reader. When done, please re-enable BOP.

Could you try uninstall Tunebite and then reinstall your sound drivers?

ok, uninstall tunebite, reinstall drivers worked, thanks!

Adobe reader, however, will not install. Here is a screenshot of the error message: attached in word

Hi again,

Creating & executing batch file
-------------------------------

Open notepad and then copy and paste the bolded lines below into it. Go to File > save as and name the file fixes.bat, change the Save as type to all files and save it to your desktop.
SWReg ACL HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\MSFS /OM

Double-click on fixes.bat file to execute it.

Try running installer again.

PS. Next time post screenshots as normal picture files. Makes it easier to open without depending on installed software :thumbup2:

I didn't see any screenshot attached but let's try this.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

RegLock::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\IMAIL]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\MAPI]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\MSFS]

Save this as
CFScript

Close all browser windows and refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.
