I have a pretty fresh OS installation after a format and reinstall, as I'm attempting to recover after a serious infection involving a root kit. My malware scans detect nothing (running MBAM, latest definitions) but ComboFix finds and deletes/quarantines two files:

c:\windows\patchw32.dll
c:\windows\pw32a.dll

Even when I scan these two files with Kaspersky AntiVirus (with latest definitions) they come back clean.

I am using Norton Ghost to reinstall my OS as I incrementally add certain things back onto my system (backed up data, etc.) and am attempting to determine at what point I might be running into trouble. The root kit has seemingly been wiped out as it always showed up in MBAM scans and I've been clean of it since the format / reinstall.

After one reinstall (from a ghost) of the OS, I still had some type of infection that was probably an internet worm. Something was remaining very silent and causing me no trouble except that when I would edit PHP or HTML files (I am a web developer), it would very cleverly insert hidden IFRAME tags into my code that would cause any visitors to the pages that I was working on to be covertly directed to a site that would (presumably) infect them with the worm or some other malware.

Any information related to these two files would be appreciated. I Googled and found nothing definitive and of course when I search these forums, the files come up in a lot of scan logs, but I wasn't able to determine exactly what malware/virus/worm these two files might be related to. Also, sorry if I provided too much information in this post.

Thank you.
