Hello,

It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

First, uninstall next programs if still present

AutoUpdate
WebHancer
Preview AdService
PSGuard
Parallel Tasking

It could be possible that those programs are not there anymore.

* Download and install CCleaner
Do not use it yet.

Download CWShredder. Start CWShredder and click FIX

You have the Peper trojan.

Download the Peperfix Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Run it; reboot afterwards. Repeat the procedure as it has to be run twice to ensure its effectiveness.

* Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = http://1-se.com/srchasst.html (obfuscated)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following folders, and delete them if still present:

C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate
C:\Program Files\Common files\updmgr
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsxsvc
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vmss
C:\Program Files\Parallel Tasking
C:\Program Files\Preview AdService
C:\Program Files\PSGuard

Files:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\wtta.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cabme.dll

Run Ccleaner and click Run Cleaner (bottom right)

* Download http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/reg/smitfraud.reg and save it on your desktop
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to add the content to the registry, click yes/ok.

* Download the Hoster from HERE Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

* Download: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf
To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

Open notepad and copy and paste next content in it:

regedit /e peek.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies"
start notepad peek.txt

Save this as look.bat
Choose to save as all files and doubleclick on it.
Notepad will open with some txt in it.. copy and paste this in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.

i cannot get to the control panel, so i cannot uninstall these files, the only things i can do on the computer are through the task manager, and some programs are not allowed to run because it says "this application has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". Also, i tried running the peper program that you suggested, and it said that there are no instances of the peper virus, or something to this effect, i don't know if this is because i could not uninstall these programs or not, but i thought i should let you know incase this affects your diagnosis.

Can you look in next folders if you find a wininet.dll and copy it in your C:\Windows\system32-folder:

C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
C:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Reboot afterwards.
Let me know.

Ok.. no problem.. according to your hijackthislog, I must have the same wininet.dll, so I'll take a copy of mine and will upload it and send you the link via PM to download it.

Edit...

Before you replace the wininet.dll back in your system32-folder, I want you to delete next files first if present:

C:\WINDOWS\zloader3.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oleadm.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oleadm32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wp.bmp

Delete them via taskmanager. :flowers:

I 'borrowed' a wininet.dll from someone else, because mine is a dutch version, and I suppose you're having an englisch version of XP?

Ok, thx.. can you also perform next as I asked you?:

Open notepad and copy and paste next content in it:

regedit /e peek.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies"
start notepad peek.txt

Save this as look.bat
Choose to save as all files and doubleclick on it.
Notepad will open with some txt in it.. copy and paste this in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
