Greetings,

This morning Symantec Antivirus popped up alerting me to a hacktool.rootkit that was found. This kicked off a rough cycle where it would "clean by deletion" but require a reboot. I did this a few times and every time it would pop up with a new one. I then ran google's Spyware doctor, which found a few things as well, and would also require a reboot. However after a few reboots, I would get the BSOD after reboot and then enter a reboot loop. The BSOD occured a few seconds after my desktop appeared..generally as the system tray icons were popping up.

My computer has been on for about 10 minutes now (by starting in the last known good configuration), and five items have been caught by Symantec Antivirus. They are:

RISK ACTION FILENAME ORIGINAL LOCATION
hacktool.Rootkit - Reboot Required - Cleaned by deletion - port135sik.sys - C:\WINDOWS\system32/drivers
hacktool.Rootkit - Reboot Required - Cleaned by deletion - nicsk32.sys - C:\WINDOWS\system32/drivers
hacktool.Rootkit - Reboot Required - Cleaned by deletion - ati64si.sys - C:\WINDOWS\system32/drivers
hacktool.Rootkit - Reboot Required - Cleaned by deletion - ksi32sk.sys - C:\WINDOWS\system32/drivers
hacktool.Rootkit - Reboot Required - Cleaned by deletion - fips32cup.sys - C:\WINDOWS\system32/drivers

Now Symantex is popping up with messages saying that my "email message to <smitheyown.mchsi.com. with the subject P.i.LL's shop was unable to be sent b/c the connection to yoru mail server was interuppted." That is odd.

Update:

I installed the XP update that contains the "Malware protection center". Upon scanning, it reports that I am infected with "Spammer:Win32/Cutwail.gen!B" and is unable to remove the program.

Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. I am having trouble finding the specific name of what I have because the hacktool.rootkit file names that Symantec catches seem to have random names.

Thank you!

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
