Real-time Infiltration Detection!

WinPatrol 9.5 brings expanded features to the benefit of both free and PLUS members who have long supported our program. PLUS members will now enjoy real-time alerts when critical changes made. Our free WinPatrol now comes pre-packaged with PLUS information on the most common PLUS knowledgebase requests.

Real-time Infiltration Detection (PLUS)

WinPatrol users have long debated the need for optimal system performance versus quick detection of mystery programs. Traditional methods of real-time detection have the problem in their use of system resources. On some systems, real-time detection can impact system performance more than the adware they protect against.

We've created new conditional based methodology that will allow WinPatrol to detect registry changes that occur when new programs are introduced. Manually editing the registry or changing program options may not trigger a WinPatrol alert but infiltrations by 3rd party programs will. This way you'll enjoy optimal performance during your normal computing tasks but Scotty will still wake up when significant changes have been made.

Local Access to Program Information

WinPatrol setup now installs some of the most commonly requested programs from our database. Internet access may not always be needed to access program information and even free users will have access to common data.

Improved HOSTS and System File Restoration

We have improved handling of the Internet HOSTS file and other critical system files. When WinPatrol is first installed we'll create a copy of your HOSTS file and other system files like autoexec.bat, config.sys and boot.ini. If any changes are made you can use WinPatrol to restore your original files. As we see more root kit infiltrations we'll be increasing the number and types of systems files we'll be protecting. You may also notice we've removed the Lock HOSTS file checkbox because this protection may have been misleading and often interferes with other AntiSpyware programs.

Bug Fixes and minor enhancements
  • Fixed missing text in Startup alert dialog
  • Added ability to select a program anywhere on listbox, not just under title
  • Improved detection of Mozilla cookie folder
  • Info... button will appear in bold text to indicate a Note is available
  • Sorting Startup Programs now keeps Disabled items at the end of the list.
