I've been trying for days to get rid of something (not sure what it is) on my computer. First noticed problem when a box popped in saying something like "live chat blocked". Various .dll files have been created but Malwarebytes' Anit-Malware, ATF cleaner, Super Anti-spyware, Norton, and Spybot can't seem to get it. It says removed, but on reboot I have processes running that shouldn't be there and when I see what's in the start-up tab under MS Config various malware will be running (the names seem to change.) In one of the Malwarebytes' logs I did notice that it said Trojan.agent. Anyway, thank you so much for any help, here is my log.

Hi,

Sorry for delayed response. Forums have been really busy. If you still need help with this post a fresh (this time complete) dds log, please.

Sorry for the incomplete log last time. Just as an update as to what has been going on, I've been getting 1 pop-up when I check my yahoo email (see attachment) and Norton has stopped 1 hijacker attempt in the last week. Not sure if any of this is related but I figured the more info the better. Anyway here is the new log....and thanks for the help!

Hi

Thanks for the extra info :thumbup2:

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds.txt log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Ok, I ran Combofix as instructed and everything went OK, but the windows recovery console didn't seem to download. I got an error message that said "invaild boot.ini file" at that step in the process.

Can I download the recovery console from somewhere else online?

Anyway, here is the combofix log and the new dds, thanks!

Hi again,

Please download BootCheck.exe to your desktop.

* Double click BootCheck.exe to run the check
* When complete, a Notepad window will open with some text in it
* Save the Notepad file to your desktop as BootCheck.txt
* Copy the contents of BootCheck.txt and post it in your next reply

Hi

We need to modify your boot.ini file a bit.

Show hidden files
-----------------
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Open boot.ini file to Notepad and add following bolded lines in:
[boot loader]
timeout=2
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Save the file and close Notepad. Run bootcheck.exe again to create new bootcheck.txt file. Post it back here.

Where can I find the boot.ini file to edit?

Thanks again!

Edit: I ran an all files and folders search for boot.ini and only found "boot.ini.backup" in the c:\windows\pss folder

Hi

Ok. It seems that whole boot.ini file is missing there. In that case please save those bolded lines as boot.ini to the root of c: drive (c:\boot.ini).

I looked at the c drive and found a boot file. I pasted the bolded lines into it and ran bootcheck....here is the log, thanks.

Good. Now please run ComboFix again and let it install recovery console if asked for a permission to do so. Post the log back here with a fresh dds.txt log :thumbup2:

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Uninstall old Adobe Reader versions and get the latest one here or get Foxit Reader here. Make sure you don't install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader!
