Without having a disc in my CD-RW tray I click properties on the CD-RW drive and it is one big BLUE circle rather than being a big PINK circle.

XP HOME

BLUE: Used Space

PINK: Free Space

Why is this?

The following is a pic of what I see.

Just going to take a guess, but if you don't have a disk in the tray, then you have no free space because there is no storage media in the tray. Once you pop in a disk, wa-la, free space. That was just a guess though.

Even when I put a blank disc in it does the same thing.

Hmm...does it still allow you to burn stuff to it?

That's another issue that I have... I've been trying to burn CDs all day with no avail, every CD-RW that I've used is empty after the burn or if there is something on it either it wont be read or can not be erased.

In response to original post...that's perfectly normal.

What software are you using in your attempts to burn? What errror messages does it give you?

Louis

I'm using CDBurnerXP... No error messages, it tells me that everything was successful after the burn when in fact it wasn't.

I also see that you say that you are using CD-RWs, rather than CD-Rs, to attempt these burns.

I haven't used a CD-RW in years...but they play by slightly different rules than a CD-R will when it comes to burning. For one thing, they can formatted/erased and used over and over.

What format are you burning these CD-RWs in?

I suggest trying a CD-R to see if it's a disk problem or a possible formatting problem.

You have read all instructions for using this program to burn disks?

Louis
