Hello cpotter and welcome to the BC forums. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Download Miekiemoes' lqfix.zip and unzip the contents to your desktop. Do not run it yet.

Download and install ewido security suite. Update the program and then close it. Do not run it yet.

Step #2

Download nailfix.zip and unzip it to its own folder.

Step #3

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #4

Navigate to the folder you unzipped nailfix.zip into and double-click on nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Locate the LQFix.bat file on your desktop and double-click on it to run it. Let it run to completion and you will get a 'Done!' message when it is finished.

Step #5

Start ewido and click on the Scanner button. On the Scanner page click on My Computer and then click the Start button to begin the scan. Let it run to completion and fix anything that it finds.

Step #6

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drsnsrch.com/sidesearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [qF7U36P] tcpsnap.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ro3a927q] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ro3a927q.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Win Server Updt] C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [boo8RWjmT] simqtz32.exe
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Viewpoint Search - res://C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\ViewBar.dll/CXTSEARCH.HTML

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #7

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
C:\WINDOWS\wupdt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\simqtz32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wintask.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\netmsg75.exe
c:\windows\system32\jubekqx.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tcpsnap.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ro3a927q.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\lnzppm.exe
c:\windows\system32\klldasf.exe
C:\windows\system32\eliteitx32.exe
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\WinTools\ <--folder
C:\Program Files\Ijjm\ <--folder
C:\Program Files\Zxvpd\ <--folder
C:\Program Files\WeirdOnTheWeb\ <--folder
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\Errol\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp\JHB\aurareco.exe
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\Errol\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp\wupdt.exe

Now search for these files and delete all instances. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.AUNPS2.DLL
Step #8

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

OT

There were several entries that you suggested deleting in HiJackThis which were not there when I went to delete. There were a few that were not exactly identical, so I did not delete them. Here is the newest log. Thanks. Chad

Hi cpotter. Ok, we've taken care of the elite and nail infections so now let's get the rest. Please print these directions and tehn proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Download CCleaner and install it but do not run it yet.

Now we need to remove some services.

Part 1
  • Click Start>Run, type services.msc into the Open editbox and click the Ok button.
  • Locate the WebSeach Toolbar support NT service service and double-click on it to open the Properties dialog.
  • Click the Stop button.
  • In the Startup type dropdown select Disabled.
  • Click the Apply button and then the Ok button.
  • Repeat the above steps for the WinTools for IE service service.
  • Close the Services window
Part 2
  • Click Start>Run, type cmd into the Open editbox and click the Ok button.
  • Copy/paste each line below into the Command Prompt window and press the Enter key after each line:
    • sc delete TBPSSvc
      sc delete WinToolsSvc
  • Close the Command Prompt window
Step #2

Now perform a search for these files and delete all instances. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. • Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
      • Please do not check: Include Module list in logfile
  • Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.
  • Click ‘Start’
  • Choose 'Perform Full System Scan'
  • DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
  • Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.
  • If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window
  • Right-click on the list and choose Select All
  • Click the Next button to finish removing the items that were found
  • When finished, REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found
Step #8

Hi cpotter. Let's do a scan for a special type of infection.
  • Download FindQoologic2.zip save it to your Desktop.
  • Unzip Find-Qoologic2.zip to its own folder and then use Windows Explorer to navigate to that folder.
  • Double-click the Find-Qoologic2.bat file to run it. It will take some time so be patient.
  • When Notepad opens with the results in it copy/paste the entire contents of the document back here.

Hi cpotter. It does appear to be a qoologic infection but the log is incomplete. Please make sure that the following files are in the folder and then rerun the scan:Find-Qoologic2.bat
XFIND.COM
fstarts.exe
gstarts.exe
Activesetup.vbs

If you receive any error messages regarding running hte vbs file (some anti-virus apps try to block vbs files) then either disable your anti-virus program or allow the vbs script to run.

Post the new log file back here and I will review it when it comes in.

Cheers.

I've downloaded and unzipped the file twice. There are only 4 files in the zipped program.

The fle activesetup.vbs is not in the file folder either before or after running the batch file.

When I run the batch file I get the following:

16 bit MS-DOS subsystem
C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application.

In the DOS window it has multiple lines that state:
"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

The box only has two options:
Ignore or close. After repeatedly pushing either of the two, a text box appears with the log file I posted.

Tried it again, but the log file doesn't look any different. Will post again.

Chad

Hi cpotter. You are correct. It looks like there is a new version of Find-Qoologic that does not include the vbs file. My mistake. The report is still incomplete and it sounds like your 16-bit subsystem is damaged which is preventing the report from running properly. To repair the command system do the following:

Download xp_fix.exe and run it. Reboot your computer when finished and then re-run the Find-Qoologic.bat file.

The Find-Qoologic report should take about 10 to 15 minutes to run and when it is finished a Notepad window should open up with the results in it. Copy/paste the entire contents of that Notepad document back here and we'll see if it is any better.

Cheers.

Hi cpotter. Ok, let's see if we can fix some of this up.
  • Download the Pocket Killbox.
  • Unzip the contents of KillBox.zip to a convenient location and then double-click on KillBox.exe to launch the program.
  • Select the option Delete on Reboot
  • Highlight the files in bold below and press the Ctrl key and the C key at the same time to copy them to the clipboard
    • <files go here>
  • In Killbox click on the File menu and then the Paste from Clipboard item
  • In the Full Path of File to Delete field drop down the arrow and make sure that all of the files are listed
  • Now click on the red button with a white 'X' in the middle to delete the files
  • Click Yes when it says all files will be deleted on the next reboot
  • Click Yes when it asks if you want to reboot now
  • If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just reboot manually
  • After your system reboots, open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into the new document

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\sqyxxtsy]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{c4901508-a973-407f-9663-fdd98ba24bd7}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{c4901508-a973-407f-9663-fdd98ba24bd7}]

  • Save the document to your desktop as fixqoo.reg and close Notepad. Locate the fixqoo.reg file on your desktop and right-click on it
  • Choose Merge from the popup menu and answer Yes or Ok to any further prompts
  • Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:
    • <items>
  • Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.
  • Reboot and post a new HijackThis log along with a new Find-Qoologic2.bat log
I will review the new information when it comes in.

Tried to work on steps, but where you tell me to select the files, no files are listed. It just says "<files go here>"

Thanks,
Chad

Hi cpotter. that was my mistake. I thought I had taken that whole section out of there. Just do the registry file part and then post a new log.

Cheers.

Performed registry part. There was a part of your post suggesting deleting items from HiJackThis, but you left the items part blank. I have posted a new qoologic bat file and a new HiJackThis file.

Thanks,
Chad
