After reformatting my PC I had a problem installing the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 update. I found an MSN tutorial on Google which told me to uninstall all versions of .NET from my ARP list and then downoad and install them again from the start v1. After uninstalling them I next downloaded new copies to my desktop. I went to install the first one .NET Framework 1.0 but instead of just installing when I double click on it it opens in a box asking me to "Please type the location where you want to place the extracted files". Never having seen this before and not being very PC techie I am not sure what to enter in the box for the install to proceed. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

It sounds like you have a self extracting zip type file. Where did you download the file from? Did you download the file from Microsoft. If you didn't, delete the file you have and go here to download it http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
If you did download the file from Microsoft and it's asking for a folder to extract the files to then create a temporary folder and direct the extraction to this.

Thanks for the reply Slix. I downloaded from Microsoft Downloads but used Firefox for the download. The ones I needed to reinstall were v2.0 and 2.0 SP1 which I managed to do through Windows Update without any problem. I am not even sure that I need previous versions but at the time thought I had to start from the beginning ie v1.0.
