All my icons have become highlighted on desktop

Hi.

I received a mail from my friend(trusted source).

It was a ms word document. it had an exe file in it.

i copied the exe file and saved on desktop.

it asked a question like "allow active x ......(i forgot the rest of the portion)". i said "OK".

Then all my desktop icons automatically got highlighted and continued to remain so.

Please help me understand what could have caused the change in my pc.

How to remove this change(dehighlight the desktop icon).

If you mean that the background of the icon's textual description is blue, then the following post may help:
