Hello

I came back to my computer tonight and realised it had restarted, so i logged in and this error box came up:

msmsge.exe bad image:
The application DLL C:/windows/system32/credui.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this agains your installation diskette.

The only thing i saw wrong with the comp so far is that i can't find my internet connections thing down the bottom right at the taskbar, i cant view for other internet connections in the area either, however the internet does still work!

Also my avg free virus has dissappeared so i reinstalled it but when i try to scan or fix problems an error keeps coming up.

i did a registry scan using RegCure and it came up with 1083 errors and i 'repaired' them all, restarted, and the same thing happened!

I've ran windows updates and installed all the new updates and now when i restart the credui.dll error doesnt pop up at startup but its coming up when i try to open windows live mail program. then it also says "Windows live mail could not be started because msmail.dll could not be loaded"

I have run the malicious virus checker and fixed one thing.
I have also ran a couple conflicker virus fixers but they came up with nothing found.

i've also tried to run hijackthis and this error came up:

"For some reason your system denied write access to the hotsts file. if any hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this.
If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself, to do this, click Start, Run and type:
notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and press Enter, find the lines hijack this reports and delete them. Save the file as 'hosts' (with quoets), and reboot."

then i click ok and the another box pops up and says:

"Error details:
An unexpected error has occurred at procedure: modMain_CheckOther1Item() Error #75 - Path/File access error"

then i click ok and hijackthis continues to scan.

This is the DSS pseudo scan log:

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. You can find information on A/V control HERE
