A few weeks back I ran a HJT and tried to clean some things up, but I am suspicious something was still there. I have this one persistant problem with "Auto Complete". I originally thought it was that my history that wouldn't clear, but it's not because when I go into RegEdit and the Typed URL folder there is nothing there. Yet, when I would type a "G" in the IE Explorer address bar an old google search I made would appear. It also does the same thing for "C".. it will prompt CNN. At any rate, nobody and I mean NOBODY seems to come up with anything that can remotely come close to fixing that problem.

See it's only a handful of websites that this happened to (for the record I wasn't surfing porn or down laoding music - these sites are all reputable). The problem started happening right after I find a Trojan.BHO on my computer.. so it must be linked to that, at least that is my best guess. I dunno, maybe it stored those files somewhere on my computer so the IE searches for it? I dunno. But I figured I am screwed, so that would be a problem I'll just have to live with since nobody has a clue on how to fix it (other than mask it by unchecking auto complete).

But today, my computer is running so slow! I have programs crashing etc etc. Happened right after I did a few application updates, so I am guessing I have some sort of malware... I did a Malware and Spybot sweep as well as a Norton... nothing was found, so I figured I should do a HJT log.

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help.

If you have since resolved the original problem you were having, we would appreciate you letting us know. If not please perform the following steps below so we can have a look at the current condition of your machine.

If you have not done so, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.

Upon completing the steps below another staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware.

If you have already posted a DDS log, please do so again, as your situation may have changed.
Use the 'Add Reply' and add the new log to this thread.

Thanks and again sorry for the delay.

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

R,
The only easy day was yesterday.

Hi

Please disable word wrap in notepad to make logs appear without gaps in them. Then post dds.txt contents again. Post also attach.txt file or its contents.

You said that autocomplete effect happens only on some certain sites. Could you give one as an example? Some sites namely has searching functionality which proposes search parameters itself based on user's input (like Google search for example).

One site is google... basically everything I serached for in that particular session comes up. For example, I did a search on the football player Braylon Edwards and this is what is stuck in my Auto Complete -- http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=braylon+edwards. But say I go do a search session on google right now, then I do a Windows wash after.. everything will disappear except for that Braylon Edwards search (and the other trapped seraches from that session). Whatever is stuck, is stuck from that one particular search session. Windows Washer has cleaned out everything prior and since that search session. But it is more than that search session... it was that entire browsing session. Because everything I browsed in that 2 hour window or what ever it was is caught in AutoComplete. A few news site links, a ski resort link etc etc. And those were not searches. I typed in the actual url for those and clicked links to certain articles on those sites. Again Windows Washer has deleted everything prior and since... just not whatever I browsed and serached that one day in that one block of time.

Thanks.

Hi again,

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer to make sure it won't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
  • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
  • If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu
    select
    Advanced Mode
  • On the left hand side, click on Tools
  • Then click on the Resident icon in the list
  • Uncheck
    Resident TeaTimer
    and OK any prompts.
  • Restart your computer
Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds.txt log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Close all browser windows and refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Uninstall old Adobe Reader versions and get the latest one here or get Foxit Reader here. Make sure you don't install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader!

If all these are Viruses, this is concerning to say the least... especially since I have recently run Norton prior to going through this whole process with you. Was Norton not catching these, are some of these not really viruses or could this possibly have happened after I turned off my Norton to run these other programs within the past few days?

Why am I getting so many viruses? I don't surf crazy websites and I don't open up crazy emails.
