i have an old dell computer with windows 98 second edition. i did something awhile back and lost information. i have been able to restore most of the information. but, i cannot restore the screen resolution. it appears to be locked on the 640x480
resolution. in the past it operated at 1o24x780. the slider bar will not move when i
click and slide with my mouse. the display area shows 16 colors or 2 colors yet i
can remember the bits being much higher. the monitor displays that optimal operation is the 1024x780 and to change using pc. but i can't do that.
the manual instructed me to change the win.ini files to something vga which i did
but the settings are the same. any help greatly appreciated

You need to download the appropriate drivers for your video card. Right now you are locked into vga mode because it does have appropriate drivers for your card

Heck i would try this first.

To put icon on taskbar to change resolutions . Right click desktop>properties>settings>advanced. THen click "show settings icon on taskbar". If this works you will have a list of all the settings.
