Hi,

I am a recent user of Avast AV & now have it installed on 2 machines. One operates w/ XP Pro & one XP Home. There are about 3800 files that Avast cannot scan on the Pro & only 14 on the Home. I tried searching the Avast index but couldn't find any info. Does anyone here know why there is such a tremendous difference in the amount of files not scanned & if there is something that I should do to scan such files?

Thanks!

Alan

Some files made by Spybot S&D and Adware from Lavasoft make backups that avast! cannot scan. There may possibly others too.

Any files password protected? These would not be able to be scanned.

Hello aland08,

I suspect that the XP Pro version of windows has a much greater number of system protected files. It is quite likely that these are the files the AVAST cannot scan.

Hi Orange,

Good to hear from you & TY. I was thinking the same. I guess in such a situation, one would have to hope that none of the password protected files were dropped as malware. It is possible that Malware could behave in such a way, yes?

Password protected/encrypted, or non-permissible files, that are not able to be scanned by Avast, are normally files that cannot run without requirements..
