Hi, a mate has just asked me this below but I don't know what to tell him, any suggestions?

"I started getting a weird message on my desktop that I may have a counterfeit copy of windows installed.
My windows was installed by a reputable company and I have a valid product code #
Does anybody know if this is some kind of scam?"
