I'm having an issue with my laptop. I have a acer aspire 5050 with Vista Home Basic.

Whenver I try to start my laptop, I get a command promp window that says "C:\Windows\system32\LogonUI.exe"

Then another window pops up that says:

"16 Bit MS-DOS Subsystem"
"the ntvdm cpu has encountered an illegal instruction"
"CS:1189 IP:0121 OP:0f 00 00 73 6b"
"Choose Close to terminate this application"

Whether I choose ignore or close it doesn't matter, it will sit at a black screen.

I've tried, safe mode, LKGC, startup repair, system restore, chkdsk, nothing will let me boot windows.

Is there anything else I can try to get it to let me boot windows? I don't want to have to pay 20 bux for the recovery discs from Acer. But if i have no other choice that I'll have to do it.
