Can anyone tellme agood...free antivirus/spyware softwareprotection thatI can download using Windows ME?

I'm helping my father in law and he has an HP Pavilion with PemtiumIII.

As far as spacegoes I don't remember how to find that, butI am assuming there is enough space. We tried to install Norton 360, but XP or higher is required.

Thanks for any help.

I am shifting this to the AV forum. Let me do some research and I'll see what I can find. Others here may know of some. ~ OB

AVAST Free Home edition, a stand-alone AntiVirus product supports Windows ME

Download location is here: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

PLATFORMS

* Windows 95
* Windows 98
* Windows Me
* Windows NT 4 (No Server)
* Windows 2000 (No Server)
* Windows XP (No Server)
* Windows Vista

Tech. details are here: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-free-home-a...ntispyware.html

One does need to register and "renew" that registration annually. Be assured that there is no fee for the home edition. I used it for a couple years and was quite pleased with it.

I'll check a couple good AntiSpyware programs I know of and see if they work with Windows ME.

Okay, SuperAntiSpyware also supports Windows ME. The free version is good but can be used only as an on-demand scanner and updates must be done manually.

SUPERAntiSpyware.com software is compatible with Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP Home/Professional, 2003, and Vista.

http://www.superantispyware.com/supportfaqdisplay.html?faq=6

The following page contains the comparison chart for the free and professional editions.

http://www.superantispyware.com/superantis...efreevspro.html

The download link for the free version is blue and near the bottom center under the free version part of the chart.
--------------
This next one isn't a scanner, but rather prevents a lot of spyware from getting onto the computer in the first place. That product is SpywareBlaster.

SpywareBlaster works on Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, or Vista.

You can find it here: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html which is where the above quote comes from, and a tutorial for using it can be found here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/use-spywareblaster-to-protect-your-computer/
--------------------
That is what I've been able to find thus far. Others here may know of other products.
