I am trying to connect to a friends router remotely. I think that I need an external static IP set up on both our systems. I think there are websites that provide such services but I am not sure. He is on a cable connection and I am on DSL if this matters. If you have any knowledge on this subject, please share.

P.S. this is an awesome emoticon

You don't need an static IP, but it would help because you wouldn't have to worry about it changing over time. Generally your dynamic IP won't change for a while, and you can check that at sites like: http://www.whatismyip.com/

You can monitor the changes with a program like Gateway IP Monitor (free here: http://www.netikus.net/products_gatewayipmonitor.html )
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
